contacts

Question
I wear Acuvue 2 contacts.....my presciption is for an 8.3 base curve....I mistakenly was sent some with an 8.7 base curve....will they harm my eyes? Is it safe to try them?

Is Acuvue 2 a good lense?

Answer
The issue is really not so much whether it is safe to "try" them, but rather the fact that your supplier has no right - whether by mistake or for their own convenience - to substitute parameters on a prescription item.

If you went to the pharmacy with a prescription from your doctor for a certain dosage of a drug and the pharmacist just decided to give you a weaker or a stronger one, he would be breaking the law.  So too with your contact lens supplier.  You should return the lenses and demand the correct base curve - not only for your own sake, but so they are less likely to try and get away with this for other of their customers.

That being said, yes the Acuvue 2 is a good lens, though J&J has two newer designs that are considered improvements over that one.  If your contact lens prescription if over one year old, a visit to your eye doctor is in order to check your prescription - and to discuss which lens is best for you at this time.
